Sexually transmitted allergic reaction to Brazil nuts

Brazil nuts are a frequent cause of nut allergy. A case report in the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology describes a 20-year-old female with documented Brazil nut allergy who developed "urticaria and dyspnea after unprotected intercourse with her boyfriend who had earlier consumed Brazil nuts. Skin prick testing with the boyfriend's semen after Brazil nut consumption confirmed significant reactivity whereas a sample before nut consumption was negative."

Further follow-up was impossible because the couple separated.

Allergic reactions due to kisses have been widely reported in the medical literature but the authors believe this to be the first case of a sexually transmitted allergic reaction.
