Breaking News of the Day
The trial of Michael Jackson’s doctor has come to an end today after the jury found Dr. Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
The decision was greeted with celebratory cries of “guilty” and “justice” outside the LA County Courthouse where the trial was held.
The jury was tasked with deciding if Dr. Murray was criminally negligent in his use of Propofol, a surgical anesthetic, to treat the singer’s insomnia and if its use contributed to Jackson’s death in June of 2009.
Over 23 days, the jury saw 49 witnesses and more than 300 pieces of evidence. They deliberated for over seven hours on Friday without reaching a verdict and returned this morning as a large crowd amassed outside the courthouse.
Jackson’s parents, Katherine and Joe, his brothers Jermaine and Randy Jackson, and sister LaToya Jackson were present at the courthouse for the reading of the verdict.
Murray, who was composed and solemn in the courtroom, faces the loss of his medical license and up to four years in prison. He was handcuffed and taken into custody following the reading of the verdict. No bail was set.
Sentencing will likely take place on November 29th
