(via TDG)Warner Bros. has stopped production on the live-action remake of Akira, closing the movie’s offices in Vancouver and sending much of the crew home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The producers are said to be “ironing out the script” with director Jaume Collet-Serra over the next couple of weeks. One insider says the studio would like to reduce Akira‘s budget to $60 or 70 million, and another claims the script itself is the real issue that halted production.
And now, here are the words that many fans of the Akira manga and anime have been waiting to hear: if the issues can’t be worked out, the project may be scrapped entirely.
Don’t get your hopes up yet, though. A source told THR, “It’s a very resilient movie. Warner Bros. just won’t let it die.”
At Locoson Unleashed we think that if the movie is done properly then it could be a must see.
We will wait and see.
